Psych-K: What You Believe Does Affect Your Body

Psych-K: What You Believe Does Affect Your Body
Rob Williams (founder of Psych K) quoted very well, how most people spend their lives, and keep adding stress to it on a daily basis.

"We are a people, who are convinced to spend money on things we don't have to buy things we don't need to make temporary impressions on people we don't care about"

Do you feel frustrated with your daily activities, because they don't fill the needs that are important to you? Is it true in your life too? If you say yes - even secretly in your mind - so, what do you want instead?

Would you like to have a choice?
Many people feel that they don't have any other choice. That it was a kind of chosen for them - maybe they were born in the wrong family? Maybe they just got wrong cards in life? Maybe it was some other reason, that they aren't aware of?

What kind of stories do you keep telling yourself, that keep you bound to your life choices?
Or, are they only our beliefs about our life, our health, our job that we don't like?
PSYCH-K® is a process for creating and changing any limiting perceptions at the subconscious level.

I love using PSYCH-K® because it is simple, it honors you and the wisdom that's inside of you as the main source of wisdom and it is efficient. I wanted to learn the technique to help people heal when everything we were doing on the physical body (diet, supplements, lifestyle changes) wasn't giving me the results I wanted.  I felt like there was a piece missing and after reading The Biology of Belief I understood that piece was how our subconscious beliefs interfere with our healing and our life.

During a session we talk briefly first, then you define what do you want to change in your life: what is not working the way you would like to or what do you want to improve there. I'll help you set up a goal towards which want to go, what do you want to have instead. Then we do the balancing process together.
Every session brings you closer to your desired outcome, whether that is a better relationship with your partner, finding a job or getting into better health.

How many sessions?
Sometimes one session is enough for you to achieve your wishes, sometimes we need to work on the possible issues around it and to meet more often. We are all individuals, spiritual beings in a physical body, and we learn in different ways and at a different pace. It's good to remember that PSYCH-K® is a process, not a quick fix program, although it can work very fast!

After the sessions it's good to observe what has changed, how do you react differently in similar situations or do you need another session. Normally you will feel some transformations in some areas of your life (usually the ones we have worked with), sometimes in many areas of your life. The Action plan is often needed to achieve results faster or at all. You may be surprised with the changes.
Because we live in one universe and energy travels through space, we can use PSYCH-K® via Skype also. In that case I will be surrogating you during the balancing. As odd as it may seem, it is as efficient as seeing face-to-face. I suggest we use this possibility in case you do not live nearby to do an appointment in the office.

The change process is called a PSYCH-K® Balance.
The PSYCH-K® Balance is a whole new way of combining the wisdom that's inside of us all, using it with your conscious goals and aligning it at the subconscious level. The result is that you can see new perception of the old situation and can act in a different way.
I came back from the Advanced training in PSYCH-K® and I learned:

CORE BELIEF BALANCE
This process addresses 13 “Core Beliefs” that often keep us from tapping our full potential in life. It is a general belief change process that prepares the mind/body system for accelerated change.
BELIEF POINTS
Learn how to use 12 “energy points” on the body that are derived from ancient acupressure. Each point represents key beliefs that give you valuable information about how you are limiting yourself in a given situation. These points make beliefs easy to access and easy to change, usually in a matter of seconds!
LIFE BONDING BALANCE
The “trauma of birth” and the “fear of death” are two powerful aspects of human experience. This balance utilizes breath as a means of re-programming the negative impact of these influences in our lives. By directing the breath back and forth between two power points in the body, you will learn to transform stress associated with the birth and ‘death’ experiences.
SURROGATE BALANCING
A possibility for “change at a distance.” Surrogation works with a substitute person for muscle testing and balancing in the absence of the person for whom the change work is being done. Surrogation can be used to help friends, relatives, and even your pets!
RELATIONSHIP BALANCE
This balance will help you transform personal issues with others and better understand the lessons to be learned in the relationship. It will provide a clearer perspective on the value of relationships between parents, children, spouses, friends, and lovers.
RAPPORT
Learn how to create a deep sense of trust and safety with others in a matter of minutes, making it easier to identify issues that may otherwise be difficult to acknowledge and change.
ENERGY FOCUSING
A safe and effective process that allows you to focus energy to a Belief Point in order to change subconscious beliefs quickly and easily.

If any of the above interests you please do not hesitate to ask any questions you may have to see if PSYCH-K® works for you!

Two of My Favorite Healthy Powders

Prebiotic Powder

A prebiotic powder is great to add to your diet.  Prebiotic fiber is in foods like bananas, onions and garlic, Jerusalem artichoke, the skin of apples, chicory root and beans. Prebiotic fiber goes through the small intestine undigested and is fermented when it reaches the large colon. This fermentation process feeds beneficial bacteria colonies (including probiotic bacteria) and helps to increase the number of desirable bacteria in our digestive systems that are associated with better health and reduced disease risk. Chicory root fibers (inulin and oligofructose) have proven health benefits such as weight management, improved calcium absorption besides supporting digestive health.  Chicory root fiber can be found in a variety of foods, including nutrition bars (ThinkThin), yogurt (Oikos Triple Zero), smoothies and oatmeal. You can get tested for a prebiotic powder at the office to see if you need it to help your good gut flora grow or have your probiotic work better for you. Standard Process also has a probiotic with the inulin in their supplement called Prosynbiotic.

Blueberry Powder

Research published in the European Journal of Nutrition found that daily consumption of the equivalent of one cup of fresh blueberries, given as 24 grams of freeze-dried blueberry powder, showed positive changes in cognitive function in older adults over a placebo. Eating for brain health is so important. Alzheimer's disease is now being referred to as "Type 3 diabetes" and "brain diabetes," as both conditions involve insulin resistance and deficiency.
A randomized control trial of the MIND (Mediterranean-DASH intervention for neurodegenerative delay) diet is looking into the benefits of a nutrient-rich diet emphasizing foods such as green leafy vegetables, nuts and berries in preventing Alzheimer's disease. Frozen blueberries are being given to participants because they are rich in antioxidants that may be beneficial for the brain, particularly when it comes to memory loss in aging.

Thyroid Health

What to Eat for Thyroid Health

Knowing how to nourish your thyroid is one of the foundational steps in keeping  all your hormones healthy.  Women have a higher risk of developing a thyroid condition, about 5 to 8 times more likely to have thyroid disease so doing what you can now to prevent a thyroid disorder is just as important as treating one.

“What foods are good for my thyroid?”
I’ll never forget the day I found out that eating a kale salad everyday for lunch wasn’t great for my thyroid health.

What?! How could kale not be good for me?!

The problem wasn’t necessarily with kale itself (it’s still one of my favorite veggies), the problem was that I was eating raw kale EVERY single day. And juicing it for breakfast too.  I was eating about 4 cups of raw kale a day!

It turns out that foods have naturally occurring compounds called goitrogens. Consumed in excess, these can have a negative impact on the thyroid gland.

The thyroid is responsible for some major functions in our body. Things like controlling our metabolism, regulating body weight and body temperature, and determining our energy levels. It even impacts fertility. Personally, I want to have steady energy all day long and a metabolism that’s on my side, and if you do too, then it’s important to take care of your thyroid.

The signs and symptoms for an unhealthy thyroid range widely, but some of the common complaints include fatigue, unexplained weight gain or weight loss, depression, constipation, sleep disturbances, and more. These symptoms can have a serious impact on our everyday experience of life, and whether you know you have a thyroid condition or not, eating in a way that supports the thyroid can support your overall well-being.

Thyroid Foods and Nutrients

There are several different types of thyroid conditions, and the most common is hypothyroidism, or having an underactive thyroid. In most cases, the root cause of hypothyroidism is an autoimmune disease called Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis. While dietary guidelines for treating hypothyroidism versus an autoimmune disease vary slightly, the foundational nutrients your thyroid needs to function at its best remains the same.

Are Goitrogens Bad for Your Thyroid?

Fortunately, the short answer is no! The most common types of goitrogenic foods are cruciferous vegetables, such as cabbage, kale, broccoli, and Brussels sprouts. These foods are nutrient powerhouses serving as excellent sources of vitamin C, potassium, folate, vitamin B6, calcium, and magnesium.

Several studies have been conducted on cruciferous vegetables and their anti-cancer compounds. Due to their high nutrient density, completely eliminating foods in this family would not be a good idea if you can help it.  Everyone reacts differently and getting muscle tested is what one needs to be specific.

The safe amount of goitrogenic foods in your diet will depend on your unique nutritional status, especially your amount of iodine. Low levels of iodine have been associated with increased sensitivity to goitrogens.  Goitrogenic foods are something to be aware of, but definitely not something to fret about!

In the case that you have a hypothyroid condition, it’d be best not to have goitrogen containing foods raw, and in large quantities. For instance, do not eat a raw kale salad every single day for lunch. Also, most forms of cooking reduces goitrogens.

If you’re eating a varied, balanced diet, chances are you are not over-eating goitrogenic foods to the amount that they are having a negative impact on your thyroid.

Consuming sauerkraut as a condiment, or having a serving of cruciferous vegetables per day, is unlikely to have a significant negative impact on your thyroid health, unless you are iodine deficient.

A Day of Good Thyroid Foods

Stick with a whole food diet that includes balanced meals of protein and fat, along with plenty of nutrient-dense vegetables and a few booster foods. Booster foods for the thyroid that give the thyroid good nutrition are apples, seaweed, Brazil nuts, green tea, garlic, avocado, salmon, olive oil, eggs.

Here's an example:

Breakfast:

2-3 egg omelette with spinach, and green onions. Serve with tomato and avocado and a hot mug of green tea or bone broth.

Lunch:

Grilled chicken and a large baby green mixed salad with shredded carrots, sliced red bell pepper, and Brazil nut with dressing of lemon juice, garlic, and extra-virgin olive oil

Dinner:

Baked salmon and asparagus alongside red leaf lettuce salad with toasted almond slivers and dulse seaweed.

Snacks:

Celery sticks with almond butter, or sliced cucumbers and black olives or Brazil nuts.

Stink Movie

Chemical Poisoning: Watch the movie Stink

I know there are a lot of chemicals in the average American household.  Formaldehyde is in new clothes and new furniture. Petroleum is in baby oil and body lotions, Dry cleaning is a toxic gas that can get on all clothes in the closet, not just the ones you get dry cleaned. Perfumes are chemicals as well but did you know that it could be the same chemicals that are in your toilet bowl cleaner?  The movie Stink (on Netflix or for purchase on iTunes) was really eye-opening that way.  I knew we were living in a toxic world but I didn't know how toxic until I saw this documentary done by Jon Whelan. Jon could smell the toxins coming from his kids pjs so he called up the company and after being told it was classified information and he couldn't know what they were putting in the pjs he knew he had a story to uncover.

I am aware of how many chemicals can be carcinogenic but I assumed the science just hasn't caught up with the manufacturing companies so when I watched the movie I was surprised that the companies were also aware that they are putting carcinogenics into their products.  They know they are killing people and they don't change it. Many times these cancer causing chemicals are labeled under the word 'fragrance'.  I assumed that if companies had the awareness that things would change but that won't work.  The only thing left is to raise the consumers awareness of it so the consumers buy something else and this movie does a great job of making us aware.
If you think you have been using toxic products in your house and want to detox heavy chemicals let me know at your next visit and even bring in a few products if you want to test the products directly with your body to see what harm they may be doing.

Fluoride Poisoning

What to do About Fluoride Poisoning

You're exposed to fluoride if you taking prescription drugs like Prozac, swim in pools, or sit in hot tubs.  It's in conventional produce like lettuce, and commercial bread and bakery products.  It may be in beverages like iced tea, wine, and beer made with city or town water, or in infant formula.  And of course it's in toothpaste.  It may even sneak into your food from Teflon coated pots and pans.

Fluoride is a neurotoxin that collects in the brain and spine, increasing the risk of death. Fluoride also calcifies the pineal gland and hardens the arteries.  Fluoride toxicity can also increase the risk of hypothyroidism, reduce infertility, and cause debilitating bone disease. So what can we do about it?

The first thing is to make sure your toothpaste doesn't have fluoride in it.  Toothpaste ingredients will not be found on the tube but on the box when you first bought the toothpaste so it is best to check online for your toothpaste ingredients.

Step two is to filter your water if it isn't well water or drink bottled water.  Brita, Pur and other common filters will NOT remove fluoride.  Reverse osmosis water filters are the best for filtering out fluoride along with chlorine and heavy metals but they also take out trace minerals so be sure to replace with mineral drops or a trace mineral tablet.

If you think you may have fluoride toxicity taking iodine and/or tamarind can help. A study that was published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition showed that it can remove risky fluoride deposits from your bones. In the study, researchers discovered that healthy boys who consumed a third of an ounce of the fruit for just 18 days noted significant enhancements in their urinary excretion of fluoride. In another study, boys who were given tamarind to eat for just three weeks noted additional fluoride excretion compared to a control group.

However, tamarind also provides another incredibly useful benefit: It can prevent and alleviate chronic diseases. Tamarind seed extract has been shown to target and kill inflammatory chemicals like interleukin, reducing joint pain, swelling and inflammation. This makes it quite useful or those who suffer from osteoarthritis.

In addition, its rich vitamin C content means it can boost immunity and help detoxify. It’s a good source of potassium, supporting healthy blood pressure, and it also helps prevent heart disease by removing excess LDL cholesterol from the veins and arteries in the body. It also promotes circulation and normalizes the levels of triglycerides in the blood. In addition, it boasts a significant iron content, helping to ward off anemia.

It’s important to note, however, that tamarind can thin your blood, so be careful if you take aspirin or other blood-thinning medications.

According to the Fluoride Action Network, many children now exceed the recommended daily fluoride intake just by using toothpaste. More than 50 studies have linked fluoride to lower IQ in children. If you are worried about fluoride exposure for you and your loved ones, tamarind or iodine could prove to be an essential part of your diet or supplement regiment.  To know for sure it's best to get muscle tested to see specifically what nutrition your body needs.  With the right nutrition the body can detox and heal naturally.

How to Juice

Juicing 101

Juicing is generally used for two different purposes:
  • For cleansing or detox: Solid food is eliminated and only juice is consumed as a way to cleanse your body of toxins. Juice cleanses range from 3 days to several weeks in length. Depending on what the goal is I usually only suggest 3-5 days.
  • To supplement a normal diet: Fresh juice can be used as a handy supplement to your daily diet, increasing vitamins and minerals intake from fruits and vegetables that you wouldn't otherwise consume. To learn more on supplementing your diet  with celery juice read hereThese are two common types of juicers:
  • Centrifugal juicers: These juicers grind fruits and vegetables into pulp through a high-speed spinning action.
  • Cold-press juicers: Also called masticating juicers, these crush and press fruits and vegetables much more slowly to get as much juice as possible.
  • Cold-press juicers don't produce heat, so they do not cause the breakdown of beneficial enzymes and nutrients that is thought to happen with centrifugal juicers.
I love the following Juicers:
1. Champion
2. Breville's
3. Omega

  1. If you have thyroid issues, consider blanching kale, Swiss chard or spinach before juicing or simply exchange it for romaine lettuce, celery, or mixed greens in any green drink.
  2. If you have been eating a diet rich in sugar, processed food and dairy, then I suggest cleansing your body for a few days and incorporating more vegetables, raw foods, fruits, soups, and reduce the processed foods before you begin your juice cleanse.

When buying your fruit and veggies I do suggest going out of your way to buy only organic.  It would be a shame to do all this hard work of juicing while putting toxins in your body from pesticides.

In general, the following "Dirty Dozen Plus" from the Environmental Working Group (EWG) had the highest pesticide load, making them the most important to buy organic:
  • Apples
  • Strawberries
  • Grapes
  • Celery
  • Peaches
  • Spinach
  • Sweet bell peppers
  • Nectarines (imported)
  • Cucumbers
  • Cherry tomatoes
  • Snap peas (imported)
  • Potatoes

Plus these, which may contain organophosphate insecticides, which EWG characterizes as "highly toxic" and of special concern:

  • Hot peppers
  • Blueberries (domestic)

Also, be sure to start drinking at least 100 ounces of water 2-3 days prior to cleansing to begin flushing toxins from the body. Increase your water intake to at least one gallon per day during your detox. For extra hydration, particularly if you feel lightheaded, you can, in between juices make and drink a natural Gatorade by adding 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt, 1 tablespoon of honey, and the juice of one lemon to 30 ounces of water.
Note: If you have candida overgrowth, diabetes, or sugar imbalances, then I encourage you to stick with green juices and not do the fruit juices. Green juice is very powerful for alkalizing the body, and by only juicing greens you are consuming low glycemic juice.

For everyone juicing I suggest juicing 80% vegetables, 20% fruits to keep the fruit sugar low because too much fruit sugar can overwhelm your body and not give you the healthy results you want from a juice cleanse.

It's best to use glass jars to drink and store your juice. This keeps the juice fresh and allows you to avoid leaching (which can occur when using plastic). You can even bring your own glass jars to the store as it's less waste and no leaching! I also recommend stainless steel straws, which you can buy on Amazon. Keep some in your bag or at work—it will also save on waste.

If you like these tips and want learn more about the health benefits of juicing and detoxing come to this Saturday's workshop on Spring Detox

Drinking Olive Oil for Dessert

Drinking Olive Oil for Dessert

Sometimes I recommend drinking a tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil with a squeeze of lemon juice after dinner to help the liver detox the daily toxins that built up in the system.  The liver does the majority of its detox work at 11pm-1am.  With the olive oil in your body at that time it helps the liver move the toxins through the gallbladder duct to the large intestine to then be eliminated.

Combining olive oil with lemon helps maintain lubricant for digestive mucus so not only does it help in moving toxins but also helps rid the body of constipation.  The discomfort from the body being toxified can lead to discomfort, and there’s no better cure for that than taking a quick drink of olive oil after dinner. The body has subtle ways of signaling that it is in need of a detox. Signs of this include headaches, slower digestion, and dry mouth.

Olive oil is another great tool for taking care of the skin and hair. Taking a small drink of olive oil is known to help boost hair growth. The vitamin D and vitamin E contents found in olive oil can help moisturize dry skin. While helping improve the skin cosmetically, it can also help prevent skin cancer. The antioxidant properties of olive oil counter the oxidation of rays from the sun. Studies show that in the Mediterranean region where drinking olive oil is common, only three in every 100,000 residents there get skin cancer.

The idea of consuming olive oil this way comes from the Mediterranean diet, which, despite its share of naysayers, has been found to be effective. Olive oil has an acid called oleic acid, which gives the feeling of fullness and promotes the feeling of satiety.

According to various studies, drinking extra virgin olive oil may prevent the formation of free radicals in the body, and reduce the incidence of colon cancer. This is because olive oil is full of antioxidants.
So now you know! All you need to do, to make the most of this amazing night tonic, is to take the juice of a ripe lemon and add it to a tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil, and drink it up! The better the quality of olive oil, the more beneficial this "dessert" will be for you.
